Hornsea bird and fish

While looking through one of the boxes of stuff I have squirreled away, I came across this lovely bird dish. It was made by Hornsea pottery in the 1960s and is a John Clappison design.

I think it was actually originally intended to be used as an ash tray though I have also seen them described as spoon rests. It was one of the first pieces of Hornsea pottery that I bought. They used to be fairly common but you don't tend to see that many of them around at fairs or sales these days.

I also have this very similar 'fish' pepper pot, designed around the same time. I bought it last year at a Norfolk car boot and am hopeful that one day I will find its matching salt pot!
