Recent Finds

On our last holiday to Norfolk we went to A LOT of car boots. These stylish cast iron pans were our best find. They were made in Denmark by Copco. Definitely on a par with Cathrine Holm kitchenware for looks and are probably a bit sturdier as they are very heavy.

Norwegian Figgjo pottery

I'm always looking out for Scandinavian ceramics for my own collection and I also often have a few items for sale on my stall at the North London Vintage Market. Here is a selection from a market I did last year:

At next weekend's market I'll be selling a couple of nice pieces of Figgjo pottery from my own collection, both in the 'Market' design. This one is a square lidded dish, probably intended for use as a butter dish but it would make quite a useful trinket box for bits and bobs.

Kathie Winkle and Broadhust ceramics

The memorably named Kathie Winkle is one of the most underrated mid-century British ceramic designers. She worked for Broadhurst pottery from 1950 until her retirement in 1992 and was responsible for over 120 designs. We have quite a few pieces in one of Kathie Winkle's earliest designs for Broadhurst which is called 'Petula'.

The later 1960s geometric designs such as this one which is 'Rushtone' are more typical of her work and still very easy to pick up cheaply.

I will be selling these cereal bowls and plate at the North London Vintage Market at the weekend. They are in a design called 'Palma Nova'. Behind these is a teapot in 'Woodland'.

Architectural Rescue

I do love a car boot sale. On a visit to Chiswick car boot last year while rummaging around in a box of junk we uncovered a bundle of architectural drawings, possibly the work of a student or trainee. I think they date from the late 1950s or early 1960s. They weren't in great condition. One of the largest had a big muddy boot print on it!

We have now mounted and framed a couple of the smaller ones, which we are reluctantly selling. They seem to be from a series of studies showing city - possibly London - streets.

T G Green ceramics

Best known for their blue and white striped Cornishware, T G Green produced some updated versions of their classic tableware in the late 1960s with fresh simple designs by Judith Onions.

I'm selling these nice storage jars in cornflower blue and pale lemon yellow with a textured white band around the base and wooded lids.

Another range featured large white spots on a darker blue glaze. Here is a tureen in this design, shown with a couple of Ridgeway cups and saucers.

Baby break

After a bit of a break from buying, selling and collecting I am back at the North London Vintage Market on 2 May. I had a baby in August so haven't really had time for anything else but now he is a bit bigger I have started venturing out and buying again.

I will post a few pictures of a few bits and pieces I will have for sale. Here is the first:

I love Ercol furniture and have a number of pieces at home so I am very happy to have found this small Pebble table. This is the smallest of a set of three nesting tables but makes a great occasional table just by itself. This one is in the dark wood finish which can be less popular but you can strip them back to the bare wood or I have also seen them repainted in nice 1950s pastel shades.

Market this weekend

It's the North London Vintage Market again this weekend. I will be selling my usual mix of mid-century ceramics and glass. This time I also have some lovely vintage fabrics, stylish mirrors, a Lloyd Loom laundry basket in great condition and a 1950s tiled coffee table.

I will also have for sale this nice set of five smokey glass shot glasses designed by Per Lutken for Holmegaard Danish glass works.

Midwinter Queensberry

This is a nice Midwinter soup tureen and bowls, all with matching saucers. The design is Queensberry and it dates from the 1970s.

Poole Delphis dishes

This week on eBay I am listing a few nice pieces of Poole Pottery from my collection.

These three dishes are from the Delphis range from the late 1960s and 1970s.

Here are a couple of photos of my stall at the North London Vintage Market earlier this month. It was great to be back and it was a really busy day.

At the last car boot I bought a vintage glass jug with a pear pattern (I can't resist anything with a pear print - blame Orla Kiely). When I got home I realised that I have a few other fruity pieces. I think they might all be French.

Car boot finds

I returned to the Chiswick car boot this month for the first time since I moved to North London. Its not as easy to get to now I don't live round the corner but definitely worth the journey.

Here are a couple of the things I bought.

The Poole Delphis plate I think was painted by Angela Wyburgh in the late 1960s. The cup and saucer are Midwinter, they are in the fashion shape but I haven't been able to identify the pattern.

 

 

Ally Pally finds

It was the giant Ally Pally antique fair this morning. I was quite restrained and only bought these three things!

This is another one of my Rye finds.

It is a large Dartington glass 'daisy' bowl designed by Frank Thrower. I have had quite a few of these before but this is the first one I have seen in the grey coloured glass known as 'midnight'.

I am told these are quite rare and I think it probably dates from the 1960s as the colour was discontinued from 1967.

Cinque Ports Pottery

It would be wrong to go on holiday to Rye and not buy something from the Rye potteries.

I bought this little pot in a junk shop in Hastings on our minimoon. From the back stamp it looks like an early piece made by the Cinque Ports Pottery between 1956 and 1960.

New home

After many weeks of online inactivity I have finally come back to my blog. We have now moved to our new place so have spent the last few weeks settling in and exploring the local area. I have gradually been unpacking all of my ceramics, though the glass is all still boxed up.

We have more space here so I have been able to display things that were all hidden away before.
